FAQs

Answering your questions before you ask them.

1. What is DeNew?

DeNew is a student-led initiative that collects old denim and upcycles it into eco-friendly bags and accessories. We reduce textile waste and provide fair-wage jobs to skilled local artisans, especially women.

2. Why does it matter? Why should it affect me?

Denim is one of the most polluting fabrics, a single pair of jeans uses up to 10,000 litres of water. Unlike traditional recycling, up-cycling reuses the material as-is, saving energy, water, and emissions. We source denim through community drives and turn it into durable, stylish products. Textile waste is a problem that affects the world, and should affect you too. Help us fight against wastage, simply by shopping.

3. How do you grow, and what's in it for investors?

Investor funds support materials, artisan wages, marketing, and scale-up. Shares start at ₹500 with a 10% return in 4 months, powered by product sales and partnerships. Our goal: to become a national model for youth-led sustainable fashion.

4. Where does DeNew get its denim from?

We organize Jeans Collection Drives in schools and communities, where people donate old or unused denim. After collection, all fabric is washed, sanitized, and sorted to ensure only clean, quality material is used.

5. Who makes the products, and how are they designed?

Our student team designs practical, trendy products like bags and pouches. These designs are sent to local tailors, many from underserved communities, who turn them into finished products, earning fair wages and gaining meaningful employment. Banjara market tailors are given a fresh chance, especially women who are often paid less, and hold astonishing talent. We pay them equally while providing them with a new opportunity.

6. Can this model grow and empower more women?

Absolutely. As we expand and product demand grows, we’ll onboard more women tailors across regions, like we have already provided job opportunities to women in Banjara market. We are actively creating jobs, supporting families, and turning textile waste into opportunity at scale.

7. How do you market and sell DeNew products?

We use a mix of social media (especially Instagram), school exhibitions, eco-stall pop-ups, and word-of-mouth in student and parent communities. We're also building an Instagram store and e-commerce website to expand online.

8. Who buys DeNew products (target audience), and what makes them special?

Our main audience includes eco-conscious youth, students, and parents. Each product stands out by blending sustainability, student-led design, and social impact. It’s not just a product, it’s a story of upcycling and empowerment.

9. How do you price and plan to scale?

Products are priced affordably (₹149–₹999) using a cost-plus model to ensure fair profit and fair wages. To scale, we aim to partner with more schools, collaborate with eco-brands/NGOs, train students as local leaders, and leverage social media for national reach.

10. Are DeNew products clean, strong, and reliable?

Yes. All denim is thoroughly washed, sanitized, and quality-checked before use. Denim is naturally durable, and we enhance it with lining, double stitching, and strong zippers, making our products perfect for daily use.

11. What tools do you use, and how will production evolve?

We currently use basic tailoring tools and machines for cutting and stitching. As we scale, we plan to invest in industrial-grade machines to increase capacity and improve efficiency.

12. Can this model be scaled, franchised or replicated elsewhere?

Absolutely. DeNew’s model, from collection to production, is modular and scalable, ideal for replication in other schools or communities. All designs are original, student-created, with room for customisation and future collaboration with design schools.

13. What is your return policy? Can I receive a refund for items I no longer want or need?

We do not accept returns as of now. However, if you would like to exchange an item, you are free to bring it back to one of our pop-up stalls in the same condition you bought it. Since each item is unique, we'll do our best to find you something you love based on what's available, and within the same price range.
